Janet,
It has been my misfortune to never have had the opportunity to get to know Fr. Don in my adult years. My memories are of the pride the family felt for having Don enter the seminary, being ordained, receiving the status of Bishop and then Archbishop. In the last few years before his health failed, we kept up a light correspondence, exchanging Christmas greetings and family updates. It made me know he was someone I wish I knew better. The tributes I am reading tell me that he was a much loved and appreciated clergyman and is today in God's hands, being rewarded for his good works. Best Wishes to the family

Dear Archbishop Borders,
Approximately 30 yrs ago you gave me my first Penance to prepare me for my First Communion at Prince Of Peace Church in Edgewood, Maryland. I remembered being very nervous at first but you made me very much at ease during the Penance. You have lived a full and wonderful life with the Lord and now are with him in eternal glory and salvation.
With Praise and Sincerity,

Jane Collins,
Most Reverend Archbishop Borders was an inspiration to me during my early years as a new convert to Catholicism. He was always very approachable and very welcoming of those of us who were coming into the Church. As I began to grow into the faith, he was an example of how a Godly person should walk, talk and act. I am saddened at the loss of such a beloved priest but he has left a legacy for me to live up to and try to be a faithful Catholic lay person. I thank God for Archbishop Borders and say to him well done, faithful servant--you deserve the rest that you now have! God bless him and all the wonderful priests that we have in our blessed and Holy Catholic Church in Baltimore!
Prayers for all the priests who have lost a wonder
To whom it may concern,
Father Borders, as we knew him at the Catholic Student Center on the Louisiana State University Campus, married my late wife and I in August 1954. He also became the first Bishop of the newly formed Diocese of Orlando, Florida and we were able to attend his investiture.
We also invited him to our home in Titusville. We considered him a friend because of the closeness we had with him while at LSU and his assistance to me in forming a Knights Of Columbus Council at the Student Center as well as in other activities my future wife and I has at the Student Center.
The LSU Catholic Student Center produced two Bishops. Father Robert Tracy became the first Bishop of Baton Rouge and Father Borders became the first Bishop of Orlando.
I will miss him.
