"Adult faith formation, by which people consciously grow in the life of Christ through experience, reflection, prayer, and study, must be "the central task in the catechetical enterprise," becoming "the axis around which revolves the catechesis of childhood and adolescence as well as that of old age."

Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us, #5

Our Mission:

To assist parishes as they facilitate the process of creating a culture of mature adult discipleship that is a living, fruitful and explicit profession of faith.  Through training and resources the diversity of adult life tasks in relationship to faith are served.  This effort finds its inspiration amid the fullness of Christian life and the vision put forth in the following documents:

  • The General Directory for Catechesis
  • The National Directory for Catechesis
  • Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us, A Pastoral Plan for Adult Faith Formation in the United States

Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion Registration Materials for Parish RCIA Leaders

The initiation of new members of the Christian community is one of the Church's most sublime works, and it is "the responsibility of all the baptized" (RCIA, #9).

The journey of faith is made in response to God's grace and is joyfully nourished and celebrated by the Catholic faith community.  The "Rite of Election" of the unbaptized person, and the "Call to Continuing Conversion" of those entering the Catholic community as persons already baptized in the Lord, mark ritually the most intense part of the preparation process for those entering the Catholic Church.

The Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion will be celebrated on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 3:00 PM at three locations.

RCIA Preparation Rites on Holy Saturday - April 3, 2010 - 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

Registration Form Deadline for registration is March 29, 2010

What are the Holy Saturday Preparation Rites?  Among the Rites belonging to the period of Purification and Enlightenment of the RCIA are the Preparation Rites of Holy Saturday.  During this time the "elect" (meaning, those who are unbaptized) are brought together (often accompanied and supported by the candidates preparing for full communion in the Catholic Church) and spend their time in prayer, reflection, and as far as they can, observe a fast  (cf. RCIA, #185).

In the Archdiocese of Baltimore these Rites are celebrated together with other "elect" from the parishes in that geographical region.

Mass of the Newly Initiated

During the Easter Season and the Period of Mystagogy, the Newly Initiated are invited to celebrate a Mass with the Newly Initiated at the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary with the Most Reverend Edwin O'Brien, Archbishop of Baltimore. The 2011 date will be available soon.
