Camp participants, counselors, and friends gathered for the first ever Camp GLOW Christmas celebration on December 21, 2008 at the Msgr. O’Dwyer Retreat House. More than 70 people gathered for an afternoon of fellowship, entertainment, song, and food.

The celebration began with a reading of the Christmas story and the singing of several Christmas hymns and carols. Everyone was then treated to snacks, hot chocolate, and punch, courtesy of Dave and Suzanne Schmidt and their family. Not only did they provide the refreshments and decorations for the dining room, the Schmidt family then served all of the guests with the delicious snacks and drinks.

Returning to the main room, party participants were entertained by PattyCake the clown with magic, humor and group participation activities. Everyone enjoyed PattyCake, who has become a regular at Camp GLOW each summer. Following that, everyone was delighted by a visit from Santa Claus who spoke to each participant individually and had a gift for everyone who attended. The “Camp GLOW 2008” Christmas ornaments received are sure to become collector’s items.

The afternoon continued with one of the favorite activities of camp, dancing. Music was provided by Mary Marshall, who also provided the music for the Christmas hymns and carols that opened the event. Mary has been a wonderful camp companion for several years and always volunteers to help, not only at camp, but also at Archdiocesan sponsored Family Fun Days and Days of Reflection.

Everyone had a great time at the celebration and appreciated the opportunity to gather during the holiday season to celebrate the Lord’s birth, break bread together, and enjoy each other’s company. It is hoped that the Camp GLOW Christmas celebration will become an annual event.
