The First Evening
- Prayer, at all sessions
- Get acquainted; offer a warm welcome.
- Introduce FOCCUS discussion inventory.
- Fill out FOCCUS application. This step may be accomplished over the phone before the first meeting, if desired. Couple will take the FOCCUS online. Comparision of their responses is emailed to the Sponsor Couple.
- Homework: Couple completes and submits responses to the FOCCUS online. Do "Personality Survey" (in folder). Listen to audio CD, "When the Cake is Gone: How to Get Married and Stay Engaged."
- Set the date for next sessions. Allow time to receive the FOCCUS results.
- Closing Prayer.
- Later: Submit FOCCUS application information as directed on the application form.
Designing Meetings Two through Five
If desired, follow the program outlines in Perspectives and To Trust Again Leader's Guides. Review the couple's FOCCUS report and make note of key areas for discussion. Select one or more workbook pages, as needed to facilitate further discussion. Select any homework assignments. Address the Five C's of Effective Marriage Preparation: Communication, Commitment, Church, Children, Conflict resolution.
General Outline of Session Two
- Prayer, at beginning and end of sessions
- Inquire about conversation sparked by last session
- Invite responses to homework.
- Review the FOCCUS report with the couple.
- Describe the FOCCUS Categories.
- Praise the areas of Strength.
- Decide on categories for next session's discussion.
- Assign any pertinent homework.
Sessions Three, Four and Five
Inquire about conversation sparked by last session. Invite responses to homework. Discuss another category area, according to your plan. Couple completes evaluation and receives Certificate of Completion at last session.
