Early Education Information (PreK)

“Words cannot describe what a blessing the PreK program and teachers have been to our family. All three of our children started in the PreK program and I still remember the day we walked our firstborn into the school and how kind everyone was. The wonderful teachers not only taught them their ABC's and 123's, but they also gave them a safe and loving environment to learn and thrive. Their enthusiasm and love for God have made a lasting impression on all of them.”
- St. Mark Parent

PreKThank you for your interest in Catholic preschools! A Catholic preschool program seeks to engage the family fully in their child’s educational journey and honors their role as the primary educators of their children. As such, Catholic preschools create a community school climate that reproduces, as far as possible, the warm and intimate atmosphere of family life.

The transition period between early childhood and elementary school can be a crucial period in children's development (Pianta, Rimm-Kauffman & Cox 1999). A Catholic preschool program is developmentally appropriate for our youngest learners, yet prepares them for a smooth transition to elementary school. All Catholic preschools are licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and follow the Archdiocese of Baltimore curriculum, which contain and extend the essential elements of the U.S. Department of Education National Standards, including:

  • Religion
  • Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Physical Education
  • Art

  • Music
  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • Spanish
  • Multi-media technology

For more information about a Catholic preschool in your area, review the preschool listing by region and follow the link to their websites. We recommend attending an open house to get a feel for the school.
