World youth Day (WYD) is an international gathering of young people from all over the world. Young people from every corner of the earth make a pilgrimage to the World Youth Day celebration. In 2011 the destination of the World Youth Day Pilgrimage is Madrid, Spain. A pilgrimage is both a physical and a spiritual journey through which pilgrims encounter the compassion and the love of God. World Youth Day gives young people the opportunity to rediscover their baptismal calling and to embrace a deeper understanding of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. The power of this gathering brings young people face to face with a new apostolic zeal and challenges them to witness more fully the Gospel in the Modern World.
