In March 2009, the Holy Father addressed the Congregation for Clergy and declared "to encourage priests in this striving for spiritual perfection on which, above all, the effectiveness of their ministry depends, I have decided to establish a special "Year for Priests" that will begin on 19 June and last until 19 June 2010. In fact, it is the 150th anniversary of the death of the Holy Curé d'Ars, John Mary Vianney, a true example of a pastor at the service of Christ's flock."

Cardinal Claudio Hummes, prefect of the Congregation for Clergy, has indicated that "the 2009-10 Year for Priests will demonstrate that the Catholic Church "is proud of her priests, loves them, honors them (and) admires them."

Throughout this year, the "youngchurch" of the Archdiocese of Baltimore will be honoring their priests.  Please take this year of opportunity to honor and thank the priests in your life.
